Brampton is an interesting little town, known for its octagonal Moot Hall where Oliver Cromwell once locked up 40 prisoners. It is now the tourist information centre. It has a range of good pubs serving food and is within walking distance of Long Byres so ideal for a drink before supper. Hadrian's Wall and Birdoswald Roman Fort are historic attractions nearby worth a visit. And the Lake District National Park is within easy reach with a trip to Windermere definitely on the cards.
