Wānaka is a great base for group holidays in New Zealand’s South Island, with mountains, lakes and outdoor activities right on the doorstep. Set beside Lake Wānaka and within easy reach of the Southern Alps, it works particularly well for groups planning skiing, hiking, mountain biking or a relaxed break surrounded by spectacular scenery.

In winter, Wānaka is ideally placed for skiing and snowboarding at Cardrona and Treble Cone, while many properties offer drying rooms, equipment storage, hot tubs and plenty of space to unwind after a day on the mountain.

Outside the ski season, groups can make the most of walking trails, lake activities, cycling, fishing and day trips around the wider Otago region. With a good choice of restaurants, cafés and bars in town, Wānaka also makes an easy base for groups wanting outdoor adventure without being too far from local amenities.
