Friendly Liverpool in the north west of England with its longstanding association with the Beatles is another city on the up. The previous grit of this northern spot has been polished and visitors are flocking to the city with its world class art galleries, beautiful buildings and museums like Liverpool branch of the Tate and the Walker Art Gallery. Still a busy port city, the waterfront is where you’ll find the Three Graces, the Royal Liver Building, Cunard Building and Port of Liverpool Building on the pier head. But if it’s music you’ve come for then head to the Cavern Club where the Beatles made their debut. You could also take a ferry across the Mersey, or visit the historic Royal Albert Dock.
