Set in the Lake District National Park with spectacular views of Skiddaw and surroundings, the Parish Room (alternative wording for a Village Hall) is approximately 1/4 mile from Bassenthwaite Village itself, where a local Inn is available for food and drinks.
The Parish Room was rebuilt in 2017 and now provides modern glamping accommodation. This is a fully accessible building with an automatic front door, ground floor wet room and accessible lift to the first floor. Groups have sole use of the building and must bring their own air mattresses/camp beds, bedding, towels and toiletries, as there are none provided.
The Parish Room is available for a number of weekends throughout the year and is conveniently accessed from the A591 (1/4 mile). There is limited parking at the Parish Room (approx 8-10 cars) but no outside recreation area; the village green is only a short walk away for ball games. Both Keswick and Cockermouth are just over 6 miles away, with plenty of local shopping and dozens of pubs and restaurants.
There are hundreds of walks in the lakes, many of which can be accessed from the Parish Room on foot! Also nearby is the Lake District Wildlife Park, Jennings Brewery, The Lakes Distillery and Dodd Wood & Mirehouse, a country house where Tennyson wrote the Morte d'Arthur.
Nearby Keswick is at the heart of the Northern Lake District, with scores of tourist attractions. The Theatre by the Lake and Alhambra Cinema are both worth a visit, while Lake Derwentwater has launches, canoes, sailing dinghies and windsurfers for hire; with cycle and tandem hire, climbing walls and many other activity centres close by, the Parish Room is an ideal base for outdoor activity groups.
