5 Star accommodation in the beautiful Wye Valley just 10 miles from the border of Wales and almost halfway between the Cathedral City of Hereford and the book lovers dream of Hay on Wye. The properties are located on the edge of a farm, surrounded by cider apple orchards and a 10 minute walk to the River Wye. Monnington House and Garden Cottage sleep up to 18 in 9 huge bedrooms with 9 bathrooms including one ground floor bedroom. The Cider Mill located across the paddock sleeps 6 in 3 ensuite bedrooms and is all on one level. Monnington House has a fully equipped kitchen to prepare food for 18 - 24. The dining areas seats 18 - 24 both inside and out.  There are 5 further reception rooms in the combined properties.

The houses are well connected by road with the M5 and M50 being nearby. Guests who live overseas frequently book the house and use it as a base for friends and family to visit. Guests gather to celebrate a milestone birthday,  an anniversary, a holiday or an annual reunion.

On site you can enjoy the large 2 acres gardens and grounds, play football/cricket in the playing field, enjoy the games room which has table football and a pool table or play table tennis in the rustic table tennis room. There are numerous walking trails from the door. Many guests enjoy the local activities of canoeing, fishing, paddleboarding. Lovely market towns of Hay on Wye and Presteigne are enjoyed where you can find independent shops, galleries and cafes and of course a visit to the city of Hereford and the marvellous Mappa Mundi.

Caterers work in the house frequently and are not expensive. There is fantastic farm shop only 1.8 miles away. Pub and cafe are about a beautiful  hours walk by foot and located near the Wye. Dogs by arrangement.

Kelmscott bedroom (Garden Cottage) is on the ground floor and has M1 status. All bedrooms are en suite at Cider Mill and are on the ground floor.

Mobile reception is available. Superfast broadband is provided making working from home possible.

Kitchen

4 door AGA (winter), 2 elec ovens and hob, American FF with ice maker, 2 dishwashers, 2 FF in farmhouse. Electric oven and hob, DW, FF in Cider Mill.

Dining Room

Dining for 18 and up to 24 by request in farmhouse and outdoor dining for 24. Dining for 8 in Cider Mill.

Sitting Room

Comfortable sitting rooms with lovely sofas, wood burners (some faux), large TVs. Books and board games.

TV and Music Facilities

TVs are in all bedrooms in Monnington House and Garden Cottage. TV in the sitting room only in Cider Mill.

Games Room

Games room is located in stable block and has a pool table and table football. A rustic table tennis room is in an outbuilding.

Heating and Open Fires

Mixture of underfloor heating and central heating. Wood burners in the 3 reception rooms in the house. Faux wood burner in the Cider Mill and Gdn Ctg.

Bedrooms

Each bedroom has its own bathroom/shower rm. All beds are superking zip/link Hypnos beds. Bed configurations can be altered by prior arrangement.

Linen

Fabulous white 400 thread count Egyptian cotton. Duvets and pillows are hypoallergenic. Fluffy white bath and hand towels are provided. Beds made up.

Bathrooms

MH &GC have 7 en suite bathrooms, one bathroom adjacent to one b'room and one shower room adjacent to another b'room. TCM has 3 en suite bathrooms.

Children's Facilities

2 cots 2 high chairs. Games room - pool table, table football (under 12s to be supervised), table tennis. Football field. Away from roads and traffic.

Outdoor

2 acre garden with terrace and bbq in summer Playing field with 2 football goals. On the Wye Valley Walk and cycling routes. Bike shed. Badminton net.

Swimming Pool

We do not have a swimming pool. The nearest is 8 miles in Hereford. Wild swimming in the Wye is nearby. We do recommend you seek professional advice.

Parking

Private parking for 10 cars at Monnington House and Garden Cottage. Private parking for 5 cars at Cider Mill including 1 covered parking.

Smoking

No smoking is permitted anywhere on the property.

Location

Monnington on Wye is a small hamlet in the beautiful Wye Valley close to the border of Wales.   It is in between the Cathedral City Hereford and the delightful town of Hay on Wye.   Surrounded by farmland and apple cider orchards.   It is peaceful and tranquil and yet pubs, shops and activities are not far away.  There are great walking trails from the door.

 

  • Hay on Wye is 12 miles and full of book and independent shops. . Hereford City is 8 miles and hosts the Mappa Mundi.
  • Waitrose, Sainsbury, Tesco, Lidl and Asda are in Hereford.  In Leominster there is Morrisons and Aldi. Oakchurch Farmshop at the top of the lane only 1.8 miles from the house.
  • There is a large choice all within 20 minutes. Check their opening times during the week. The Red Lion at Bredwardine, Brobury House and Garden Cafe, Timothy and Birth, The Yew Tree Inn at Preston on Wye, The Cider Barn at Leominster, The Kilpeck Inn, The Three Tuns in Hay on Wye.
  • Bristol (approx 48 miles), Birmingham (approx 52 miles), Cardiff (approx 56 miles), London (approx 135 miles), Manchester (approximately 138).
  • Hereford Station is 8 miles, with direct trains to Birmingham and London. Leominster station is 12 miles and has direct trains to Manchester.
  • Bus stop on A438 about one mile walk from the house. Rural service.
