Edinburgh’s famous Prince’s Street and Edinburgh Castle are only 20 minutes drive away and the city provides all the attractions expected from Scotland’s capital, yet within 5 miles of the rural setting of these holiday cottages are the sporting facilities of 8 golf courses, river and loch fishing, pony trekking, a dry-ski slope and 3 leisure centres with swimming pools.
The Penicuik to Dalkeith walk/cycle track passes the gates of Gorton House, while the Pentland Hills Regional Park provides the backdrop and is readily accessible.
West, Mid, and East are all self contained holiday houses, but communicating doors allow this property to be opened up to provide “large group accommodation” for up to 19 guests under one roof. Adding the 17 bed spaces from the smaller holiday cottages, Gorton House and Cottages can accommodate up to a total of 33 guests.
Orchard Cottages were built in 2002 to match the character of the nearby historic Gorton House. All have south-facing views into The Walled Garden and are named after the fruit trees grown in the particular area in which they are situated.
Each has its own spacious garden and private parking area. A short walk around Gorton grounds promises stunning views over Roslin Glen towards the Pentland Hills and surrounding countryside.

Accessibility

Large house has level ground floor access and one ground floor bedroom. Cottages have one step access. No toilet facilities are wheelchair accessible.

Dog Friendly

Max. 2 dogs at £25/week each. Not to be left alone in properties. Not allowed on furniture.

Kitchen

All houses/cottages have their own fully equipped domestic kitchens including washing machines. Dishwashers in larger houses only.

Dining Room

All houses/cottages have dining space within sitting room. Groups using entire large house may allocate one public room as dining room.

Sitting Room

All house/cottages have sitting rooms with comfortable seating for appropriate numbers.

TV and Music Facilities

All houses/cottages have a TV with freeview and a DAB radio.

Heating and Open Fires

All properties have electric heating (included). The big house has log-fire stoves, with a large basket of logs. Extra logs available to buy.

Bedrooms

All bedrooms have comfortable beds (no bunk-beds) and adequate clothes storage. When fully occupied (33) some rooms are "family" rooms.

Linen

Linen and towels are provided.

Bathrooms

All bathroooms are modern and well appointed. All cottages have showers only. Large house (together) has 3 baths and 4 showers.

Children's Facilities

Cots/bed guards and high chairs available on request. Gardens are all child friendly

Outdoor

Beautiful gardens with views out to spectacular scenery. Tennis court and mini-golf on site. Access to Roslin Glen from the garden.

  • Edinburgh - 14 miles (25 minute drive)
  • Eskbank station is 4 miles away. Regular trains to Edinburgh (Waverley) and the Scottish Borders.
  • Rosewell is 10 minutes walk and has regular buses to main transport hubs. See LRT website or app for bus times.
