Greta Hall is a stunning Georgian house that has inspired writing, philosophical thinking and creativity for over 200 years and continues to do so. Famous visitors include: the Wordsworth's, Byron, Keats, Shelley and more recently Steve Coogan, Rob Bryon, Sir John Hurt and Lorraine Pascal. We have been a venue for The Trip, Antiques Roadshow, My Kitchen Rules, Good Housekeeping and Hello magazine.

Greta Hall offers something for everyone from special occasions and celebrations, families taking time together, reunions, university groups or poets, writers and artists seeking inspiration to individuals or couples seeking quiet time away. Surrounded by 3 acres of gardens, Greta Hall offers unexpected seclusion in the heart of Keswick in the Lake District.

Until June 2017 the 3 separate 'wings' can be rented individually or together:

- The Coach House (CH) sleeps 11 in 5 bedrooms: 2 double en suites, 1 double, 1 triple and a small gallery twin, huge living room with kitchen, dining for 12, sitting area with wood-burning stove, family bathroom, utility and understair loo
- The Coleridge Wing (CW) sleeps 6 - 3 bedrooms: 2 doubles and a 1 twin. Beautiful sitting room with dining area for 8, kitchen, bathroom w/shower, extra loo and utility area
- The Old Wash House (OWH) sleeps 2 - 1 double. The original laundry now with kitchen, sitting and dining area, utility and shower room

Available from June 2017:

- Southey Wing sleeps 14 in 7 bedrooms, with sitting room with open fire, library with open fire and magnificent views, office with a wood-burner, huge kitchen, dining room with seating for 22 and utility/boot room
- Coleridge Wing sleeps 6 in 3 rooms, with beautiful sitting room with dining area
(together making up Greta Hall (GH))
- The Old Wash House sleeping 2

Accommodation is decorated to reflect Cumbria; gentle greys, slate, Herdwick wool, linen and unique commissioned furniture from local designers.

The garden has an amazing play area for children, slate barbecue and fire pit, river, wild woodland, chickens and plenty of seating and tables make the most of the views

Facilities

Family kitchens with full range of cook and bakeware. Laundry facilities. GH: larder fridge and freezer, Britannia range, Kenwood, utility room.
GH: original slate flag floor, locally made dining table to seat 20/22, Iranian chandeliers. CH: seats 12. CW: seats 8. WH: seats 2.
Open fires/stoves, squashy sofas and TVs. GH: 2 sitting rooms + library. CH: large living room. CW: sitting/dining room. OWH: living room.
All sitting rooms have TVs. Most rooms have PURE radios with AUX input.
WiFi throughout. Mobile reception for most providers. Printer in the GH office. Phone for local calls.
No dedicated games room however each wing has plenty of toys and books, a games cupboard. GH has a dedicated children's library and toy area.
Gas central heating throughout the house, open fires and wood-burning stoves. All have safety guards.
GH: 8 doubles (2 en suite) and 2 twins. All have sinks.CH: 2 en suite doubles, double, triple, twin. CW: 2 doubles, twin. OWH: 1 double. Cots.
Egyptian cotton bed linen, goose down and feather duvets and pillows. Hyper-allergenic available on request. All towels provided.
GH: 2 en suites, 3 bathrooms + sinks in all bedrooms. CH: 2 en suites and family bathroom. CW: 1 family bathroom and extra loo. WH: 1 shower room.
Unfortunately Greta Hall is an old house and not fully accessible. Accessibility report on website.
Travel cots, highchairs, baby bath, steam steriliser. Plenty of toys and books. Babysitting service available on request.
Three acres of garden, tangled woodland and the River Greta ready for adventures. Slate BBQ and firepit. Climbing tower and play houses.
Who needs a pool with 1/4 mile of river (fishing rights) for paddling and rope swings? About 12 minutes walk from Derwentwater for wild swimming.
Greta Hall has private off-road parking for up to 7/8 cars. Finding the house is very easy and access straightforward.
For the comfort of all guests and our family, smoking is not permitted within the house or the grounds of Greta Hall.
Dogs are welcome at Greta Hall and for the comfort of other guests they are restricted to slated entrance areas. Dog bowls and welcome treats.

Location

Greta Hall is located about 20 minutes from the M6 (Junction 40) along the A66. Situated just two minutes walk from Main Street, Keswick.
Keswick.
The Co-op is approximately 2 minutes walk from Greta Hall. The town centre just a minute further along the road. Markets on Thursday and Saturdays.
Keswick town centre (2 minutes walk) has a multitude of wonderful pubs and restaurants to choose from.

Penrith station is 20 minutes drive (West Coast mainline with London only 3 hours direct), Windermere station is about 1/2 hour drive. There is a good bus and taxi service.
Keswick bus station, outside Booths, is about a 4 minute walk from Greta Hall. Hourly Stagecoach bus services to Penrith and Kendal (via Windermere, Grasmere and Ambleside) and good local services.
The nearest airports are Glasgow, Manchester and Newcastle which are all just under a 2 hour drive away (85 miles).
