Rural lodge house sleeping 10, in a great location for outdoor activities in the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean

Holiday Rental for Groups of Families and Friends.
Lodge House, Hilston Park, Monmouth, Monmouthshire, sleeps 10 in 3 bedrooms.

Great location to 'get away from it all' and enjoy the great outdoors.

The Lodge house is set in its own grounds within the larger setting of Hilston Park, in a rural location, surrounded by farmland. The 3 Castles walk and 4 Castles cycle route both pass close by. Immediately opposite the Lodge there is access to a network of footpaths offering walks with lovely views extending to Garway Hill and beyond into Herefordshire.

There are numerous other outdoor attractions in the area. Fishing is possible in the rivers Wye and Monnow plus there are a number of nearby lake options. The 3 Castles walking route links Skenfrith, Grosmont and White Castle and can be accessed directly from the Lodge. Nearby is Offas Dyke, Wye Valley walk, the Black mountains, Garway Hill, and the Monnow Valley circuit.

The river Wye provides some of the best canoe touring available in Britain, with canoe hire available in Monmouth. Symonds Yat rapids give a good introduction to white water and in the winter the Monnow is a great canoe river. About 20 minutes drive away the river Usk has some classic grade 2 and 3 sections including Mill Falls.

The Forest of Dean has mountain biking routes suitable for all abilities, with bike hire at Pedal a Bike Away and a family cycle route which is great for everyone. If you want something a bit harder the Verderers and Freeminer are not to be missed. Downhill fanatics will also find the freeride area, with its 14 runs, a real blast!

For road cycling enthusiasts, try the 4 Castles run, the Wye Valley Wanderer or head for the Tumble with its famous climb finishing with rewarding views over the old coal mining valleys and Brecon Beacons.

Also plenty of rock climbing opportunities, with single and multi pitch, bolted and trad at Symonds Yat, Shorncliff, Wyncliff and Wintours Leap.

Relax at the end of your day with a drink and a meal at one of the nearby pubs, both with great reputations for good food and fine ale.
