Barholm is a Victorian house uniquely situated on the shores of Strangford Lough, a Marine Nature Reserve and AONB. Sleeping up to 47, this is a great choice for family special occasions such as birthdays and weddings, or just for getting several generations together for a holiday exploring this beautiful part of Ireland. Exclusive use is available. Although we can provide all catering, self catering may be possible - please ask.
We also welcome youth and business groups for which we can help organise a wide range of activities. Facilities at Barholm include a large fully equipped conference room and smaller breakout areas.
Barholm offers 13 bedrooms including single, double, family and group rooms, most with en suite bathrooms. One is on the ground floor, the whole of which is accessible for any member of your group with restricted mobility.
Our conservatory overlooks Strangford Lough providing a superb dining area with magnificent views. For a celebration, groups can book exclusive use of the restaurant, where we offer a wide choice of quality food.
Barholm provides a perfect base to explore the Strangford Lough area, with good access to the National Trust properties of Castleward and Mount Stewart, as well as Exploris (The Northern Ireland Aquarium) which is literally 2 minutes' walk, and fabulous sandy beaches. We work closely with Clearsky Adventure to provide a range of outdoor pursuits activities such as kayaking, climbing and archery.
Portaferry is a charming village, recognised for the quality of its built heritage and unique setting with attractive shore frontage. Visitors can be sure of a warm welcome. A car ferry provides a link to the village of Strangford giving access to St Patrick's Country and the spectacular Mountains of Mourne. Local pubs host traditional Irish music and excellent seafood can be enjoyed locally too.
Strangford Lough is a popular destination for bird watchers, sea kayakers and scuba divers, as well for walking, fishing, and for artists and those seeking some peace and quiet among superb natural surroundings.
