A beautiful, traditionally renovated Andalucian cortijo, perfectly designed for large group getaways. El Cachete is a 150 year old farmhouse set in 80 acres of beautiful olive groves. Bought in 2000, the owners, Jim and Mary Cairns have done extensive work on the property to ensure that it can accommodate not only a large number of people (up to 15, plus a couple more children) but also a variety of activities, whilst putting minimal strain on the environment. The cortijo has been designed to be as eco-friendly as possible; the water is sourced from its own well and there are solar panels to heat the water.

Whatever you're looking for from a group holiday rental, this cortijo has it; whether that be swimming in the 20 metre long, 2.75 metre deep pool, soaking up the sun, playing ping pong, or seeking out one of the hidden cubby holes - perfect for reading or simply having some ‘me time’.

The Cortijo comfortably sleeps 15 in bedrooms as follows:
- master bedroom, en suite, featuring a private balcony providing spectacular views of the pool and surrounding countryside, with steps leading directly down to the pool area
- 5 double/twin en suite
- 5 single en suite
- 1 further double bedroom
- 3 bed dorm/children’s bedroom sharing a family bathroom
(A couple of further beds may be possible by separate negotiation).

The kitchen is fully equipped with 10 hob burners, 2 ovens, 2 fridges, a microwave, triple sinks and a dishwasher. There is a large selection of pans and cooking equipment, a mini deep fat fryer, a Kitchen Aid food mixer (just in case you’re holidaying with any budding bakers) and to top it all off, an authentic pizza oven can be found by one of the two outside dining areas. A laundry room can be found close to the kitchen.

There are tables around the courtyard at the front of the property and also on the terrace at the rear; both provide shaded dining areas at different times of the day.

There are two separate living rooms within the house; the larger main sitting room has a television, piano, speakers and a bar area. The smaller room is a shady, calm area perfect for children to chill out.

We do not have a dedicated games room but there are a number of games (table football, table tennis, trampoline) around the property.
Sitting room has an open fire.
12 bedrooms, 12 en suite. Mix of doubles and twins.
All linen and towels provided. The services of a cleaner who visits the property for two hours a day is also included in the price.
All main bedrooms have en suite bathrooms apart from the dormitory style bedroom.
There are no specific facilities for disabled guests.
There is a smaller sitting room perfect for children to chill out in. Pool can be closed off to make it safer.

The 20 metre pool is in an enclosed garden which can be locked. There is also access from the master bedroom.
Outside parking space for around 15 cars.
Smoking permitted outside only (but please be very aware of the fire risk during the dry summer months and dispose of cigarettes responsibly).
There are some animals on the property (cats); we are happy to consider guests bringing their own pets on a case by case basis.


The house is located in the countryside 4km from the nearest village (Cuesta la Palma), and the road between Malaga and Granada.
The picturesque historic towns of Loja or Archidona are both around 20 minutes drive away.
The local villages of Cuesta la Palma and Salinas are around 5 and 7 minutes drive away, and have a range of little shops, cafes and bars.
A number of typical tapas bars and small restaurants in the local villages (around 5 minutes drive), or in Loja.

Booking Information

The Cortijo is rented out on a weekly basis Saturday - Saturday. Check in is at 16:00 and check out is at 10:00. Prices given are in Sterling. A refundable damage deposit is payable at the time of booking. Available between May and October.

There's a station at Loja (15 mins away) with regular trains to Granada. The central station in Malaga (50 mins drive) has trains to Madrid.
Buses to/from Malaga and Granada stop at Cuesta la Palma (5 mins drive) or Loja (15 mins drive).
Malaga airport is around 50 minutes drive away.
