The Hebridean Isle of Eigg, which lies 10 miles off the Scottish west coast, is an island of outstanding natural beauty and a true gem for birdwatchers, wildlife lovers, photographers and outdoor enthusiasts. With stunning beaches and coastal landscapes, sites of archaeological and geological interest, diverse wildlife, regular traditional music sessions and fantastic local cuisine, Eigg is a magical destination.
The Glebe Barn, a charmingly converted 19th Century building, is situated beneath the majestic pitchstone ridge of “An Sgurr” and commands magnificent panoramic views of Scotland’s mountainous coastline. Conveniently located within 1mile of the shop, café & restaurant, only 15 minutes from Kildonan beach and 2-3miles from Laig Beach and Singing Sands, it provides an ideal base for exploring the island.
Sleeping up to 22 in a twin room, 2triple rooms, an 8bed and a 6bed bunkroom, Glebe Barn is perfect for friends, family, schools, universities, special interest groups, retreats or training groups. For more space or privacy there is an adjoining 2person apartment, often used by staff or course leaders.
The ground floor has a large open plan lounge/dining area with log fire, sound system, free WiFi, books, table football and plenty of games and jigsaws for all ages. The kitchen is superbly equipped with large gas cooker, fridge, freezer, microwave, toaster, blender and separate pantry with ample storage for large groups. The laundry room has commercial sized washing machine and tumble dryer and the entrance lobby/drying room is heated by our own small hydro-electric plant. The building is fully central heated with hot showers. Linen is provided but not towels.
The building is self-catered, although full catering is available to groups by prior arrangement with our superb local catering team who provide delicious locally sourced home cooked food.
On the island you can hire bicycles and try your hand at fishing, archery or crafts such as willow weaving or felt making. You can watch Golden Eagles soaring and listen to the Lapwing cry whilst trips to Rum or Muck provide opportunities to see porpoise, dolphin, whales or basking shark.
