Plas Caerdeon is a magnificent Victorian mansion set in 18 acres of self contained grounds. Looking out across the stunning Mawddach Estuary towards Cadair Idris, the estate benefits from a southerly aspect.
The main house has 15 rooms over 2 upper floors, bunk beds in first floor rooms, singles on second. The ground floor comprises a fully equipped catering kitchen, professional servery, large dining room, library, large lounge/group meeting room, grand entrance hall and stairway, games room, drying room, toilets, and 'wet activity' entrance. There is a further basement games room.
Below the centre the historic terraced gardens lead down towards the estuary. The remaining 16 acres are mainly species rich Welsh Oak woodland, along with a large grassed area, woodland stream, and a number of activity areas.
The centre is a AALS licensed adventure activity provider, and is fully equipped for the provision of mountain sports, rock climbing, abseiling, canoeing, kayaking, off-road cycling, archery, and a range of team building activities. There is also a zip wire and low ropes course on site. Bespoke corporate entertainment and outdoor development courses provided, family friendly activities.
Just a couple of miles from the extensive beaches of Barmouth and Fairbourne. Convenient for the world class mountain biking at Coed y Brenin, the family friendly Mawddach trail, a wide variety of way-marked trails and the network of footpaths along the coast, through the forests, and across the hills and mountains of unspoilt Southern Snowdonia. Within easy reach of Harlech Castle World Heritage Site, the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland steam railways, and the latest adventure centres at Zip World/Bounce Below and the adjacent downhill mountain bike centre. History, culture, relaxation, adventure and adrenaline all within easy reach.
Plas Caerdeon was a favourite summer retreat for Charles Darwin and his family - he wrote the third edition of 'Origin of Species' whilst staying at Caerdeon during the mid Victorian era.
