If you like the idea of holidaying on a Peak District working Farm, historic Throwley Hall is an ideal setting, with large open spaces, stunning wildlife and outdoor activities right on the doorstep. Wake up to the sounds of baby lambs bleating and young cattle lowing, right outside your window. Surrounding villages offer good pubs and restaurants and some allow dogs.

For those who enjoy walking and cycling, there are fantastic opportunities to access the Manifold Trail, Ilam and Dovedale straight from Throwley Hall. Bakewell, Leek, Buxton and Matlock are within easy reach if you fancy exploring this beautiful area or treat the family to a fun day out at the world famous Alton Towers, just 20 minutes away.

Throwley Moor Farmhouse, the larger of the 2 properties, has spacious sociable areas for guests to enjoy. The lounge with games room provides a great place for all generations to make some memories in the cosy ambience of the open fire, and the dining table for 14 is perfect for celebration dinners. The kitchen facilities are perfect for preparing a large group meal but, if you would prefer, owner Sue can provide contact details for outside caterers to come in and do it all for you. Throwley Cottage also has a comfy sitting room with a real fire, offering choice and variety for all ages, on the same site.

Bedrooms have a mix of doubles, singles and twins across both houses with extras available for children and babies. Bathrooms are plentiful with provision on both ground and first floors, ideal for guests who are less mobile or youngsters. Both properties have well equipped kitchens and washing machines with tumble driers housed in a separate laundry in the farmhouse.

On warmer days, why not take advantage of outdoor seating with the south facing level lawns, patio, barbecue, tables and benches while making the most of the spectacular views. Or for the more energetic, water sports are available at Rudyard Lake and Carsington Water.

Farmhouse - dining for 14. Cottage - dining for 7. Outdoor seating for al fresco dining.
Farmhouse - lounge with comfy seating and open fire plus second lounge/games room. Cottage - lounge area with beams, comfy seating and open fire.
TV, DVD player, CD/radio is available in the farmhouse.
Landline telephones in both houses. Currently no WiFi in the cottages, but 4G outside.
There is a games room attached to the lounge in the farmhouse with pool and table tennis and a selection of board games.
Central heating is available throughout with open fires in both lounges in the farmhouse. Cottage has electric storage heaters and an open fire.
Farmhouse - 1 double, 2 family, 1 with 4 single/zip and links. Cottage - 2 double, 1 twin, 1 single. 1 wash basin. Extra beds in some rooms.
All linen and towels are included in the price.
Cottage - ground floor WC, shower. Upstairs family bathroom. Farmhouse - ground floor WC, shower. Upstairs family bathroom with separate shower, WC.
No special facilities for disabled guests.
Cots and high chairs available upon request. In the cottage, there is a guest bed available for a child upon request. Large garden and games room.
Outdoor seating with south facing level lawns, patio, barbecue, tables and benches, making the most of the spectacular views.
There is no swimming pool at Throwley Hall.
There is secure off road parking for 6 cars.
No smoking inside the properties please.
Dogs are allowed – extra £10 each. Please note, this is a livestock area and dogs must be kept under your control at all times.


Throwley Hall Farm is situated in the rural Manifold Valley, midway between the towns of Ashbourne and Leek, minutes from the A523. Ilam is about 2 miles from Throwley and Alton Towers 9 miles.
Ashbourne is 8 miles from Throwley, a bustling market town with a range of cafes and eateries.
Waterhouses, 2 miles west of Throwley on the A523.
Ilam, a National Trust Country Park has a cafe. Otherwise, the village of Waterhouses is 2 miles west of Throwley on the A523 where a convenience store, pub and chip shop can be found.

Booking Information

A 25% non-refundable deposit is required when booking. Payments are accepted by bank transfer, cheques (please make payable to ‘Throwley Hall’) and card. 4pm arrival time and 10am departure time. Pets £10 per dog charge. Only week long bookings in July and August.
